mySDG International Conference 2024:
Building Inclusive Communities

mySDG International Conference 2024 is to identify best practices, celebrate our achievements, and explore potential collaborations towards building a truly inclusive community. Your active participation and insightful contributions will help shape SDG development, and enable us to create a society that leaves no one behind.

The shortlisted best papers from the 3 build up conferences in Malaysia and International presenters will be invited to present in Kuala Lumpur. We invite academics, activists, and community leaders to share their ideas, experiences, and stories on SDGs.

As we strive to shape a more equitable and sustainable future, we encourage all participants to adopt a cross-cutting approach to address the interconnected challenges we face.

Inclusive communities could come from a multiethnic dimension, the inclusion of women across age groups (young or elderly), a class divide, the inclusion of persons with disabilities, or indigenous, minority, or religious communities.

How have community programmes and projects fostered inclusion so as to ensure no one is left behind? We encourage you to consider both academic and experiential perspectives, focusing on specific themes or target groups, as appropriate.

Both articles and videos could be in Bahasa Malaysia or English

All presentations must focus on Building Inclusive Communities that could be in terms of inclusion irrespective of gender, age, class, race, ethnicity, religion, social status (indigenous or minority), disability, and location (rural or interior/forest based, urban – affluent or B40 communities).

We welcome all grassroots community leaders, CSOs/NGOs, activists and academics to share with us their reflections and research work. We recognise all have an opportunity and space to share their reflections and analyses in building a reflective SDG community.

Type of output can be EITHER ONE

1- Storytelling

This is a write up of 1,000 to 2,000 words from a personal or group experience in implementing SDGs in building inclusive communities.

2- Case studies

This is a write up of 2,000 to 3,500 words of a specific group, issue or solution project that is on-going or completed that has contributed to building inclusive communities.

The writer will discuss experiences from a SDG perspective, focusing on a specific group or location that is identifiable. A background with references, visuals or media coverage of the case study may be included.

3- Commentary

This is an analytical write up of 2,500 to 4,500 words on a specific theme in SDGs utilizing references from secondary data in building inclusive communities. It could be a cross-cutting SDG theme covering more than one SDG or thematic area.

4- Empirical study

This is a write up of 5,000 to 7,000 words of an empirical study on building inclusive communities using the SDGs. A background with a clear research methodology, sampling frame, research questions, instruments and analyses should be included. This could include qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods. Findings presented should be discussed along with study limitations and recommendations. References should also be included. The paper ideally should not have been published before.

ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION DEADLINE

The conference participation fee, and accommodation as well as F&B during the event days are fully sponsored.

We are open to hearing views from the private sector and social enterprises who are undertaking responsible business practices, including CSR and ESG, which are clearly aligned with the SDGs too.

ORGANISERS

APPGM-SDG is a non-partisan initiative with the mission of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in parliamentary constituencies. The implementation process involves thorough analyse of pertinent issues and development of corresponding solutions, as well as policy research and facilitation of multi-stakeholder partnerships. This includes raising awareness and building capacity at the local level. From 2020 to 2023, we have successfully carried out localization efforts in 84 parliamentary constituencies.

mySDG Academy is the training arm of the APPGM-SDG Secretariat. mySDG Academy is an educational and knowledge-sharing hub for SDG practitioners and scholars. We believe in creating a friendly environment that encourages people to research, read, publish, and share their experiences and lessons learned in sustainable development. mySDG Academy is established under Persatuan Promosi Matlamat Pembangunan Lestari.
