SOLUTION PROJECT 1

Project description

In order to be ready to thrive in a world of constant, rapid, exponential change everyone needs to be a skilled changemaker. In these challenging times, we need to develop truly resilient societies to solve complex social problems. Many promising youths within the PPR should be given a changemaker opportunity to improve their livelihood and surrounding while building a network of support beyond the PPR.

This project focused on creating awareness on United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and inspire youths from the at-risk localities to be changemakers. Youths will be exposed to the actual challenging environment and encouraged to take creative action to solve a social problem within their locality through SEED funding.

Youths ensuring solutions will outpace problems and create social impacts among their community. They would be resilience and master core skills to sustain themselves and their impact.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG allows youths to provide localized solutions while improving their personal credibility through professional coaching. Imparting upon them the necessary tools and frameworks to independently identify problems in the world around them and innovate solutions.

This project aims to benefit 15 youths from PPR Lembah Pantai. The solution provider of this project is Persatuan Pemangkin Usahawan Sosial (Social Entrepreneur Development Association). The project duration is one month with an allocation of RM24,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project are Goal 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all and Goal 8 – Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.

SOLUTION PROJECT 2

Project description

This program aims to provide sustainable solution to enable PPR households around Kerinchi Lembah Pantai, PPR Kg Limau and PPR Pantai Ria to start business based on their talents or skillset to be self-reliant and independent to uplift their own living condition through PSC proven methodology of online learning and mentoring.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG will help to increase their self-esteem and acquire new entrepreneurial skillset to improve their social status to get out of poverty cycle to their next generation.

The project is to benefit 10 breadwinners from 10 PPR families from PPR Kerinchi Lembah Pantai, PPR Kg Limau and PPR Pantai Ria which would have multiplier effects directly impact their households such as elderly parents, siblings, and children.

The solution provider of this project is People Systems Consultancy Sdn Bhd. The project duration is five months with an allocation of RM26,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project are Goal 1 – End poverty in all its forms everywhere, Goal 4 – Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 8 – Promote sustainable, inclusive and economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all, Goal 10 – Reduce inequality within and among countries and Goal 17 – Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

Project description

Social issue involves in B40 category in financial wise leads to social abuse, involvement in unhealthy activities (drugs, vandalisms, school dropouts and child abuse) in this community.

The rapid growth of income even its small amount will help the B40 category of people can lived in debts less life, gets better nutrition, stable income to run the family, since women plays huge role in this group of people, women empowerment programs will make them earn extra income to run the family and provide necessity for the kids.

Thus, this project solution provides trainings to identify potential income-generating activities and will prepare activities that create awareness for B40 categories.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG will empowers women in the community to sustain income to reduce monthly household burden. Next, it promotes the fulfilment of women’s potential through skill development and self-employment, as well as giving importance to the elimination of poverty. Not only that, this project will also adopting appropriate measures to improve women’s ability to earn income beyond traditional occupations, achieve economic self-reliance, and ensure women’s equal access to the marketing.

The project is to benefit 25 women aged above 16 years old who participate, including family members and neighborhood.

The solution provider of this project is Persatuan Kemajuan Dan Kebajikan Masyarakat Lembah Pantai Kuala Lumpur. The project duration is five months with an allocation of RM10,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project is Goal 5 – Gender Equality.

SOLUTION PROJECT 4

Project description

Female-head households, economic vulnerability, child poverty, malnutrition, and juvenile are among many issues that have been associated with the vulnerable group. Even worse, the pandemic Covid-19 may exacerbate their socioeconomic situation. For women already living in poverty, this pandemic can be a shock to their economic stability, especially in the informal sector workforce.

Therefore, this project solutions aim to empower women already in small businesses or those who have the potential of going into online business in Lembah Pantai PPR. Open to any type of business by the head of household and family members that can secure income for the household. For instance, food-related business – cooked food, baking, or non-food-related – such as tailoring, soap making, home tuition, Quran teaching, etc. Participants will be identified based on preliminary discussion, need analysis, and focus group discussion (FGD) with the community leaders.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG widens opportunities and gives exposure to participants to learn about online business, online marketing, and financial management.

The project is to benefit 20 Women (*estimated target number – the actual number depends on the need analysis on the ground and after discussion with the Community Leaders/relevant authority).

The solution provider of this project is Ungku Aziz Centre for Development Studies. The project duration is five months with an allocation of RM30,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project are Goal 1 – End poverty in all its forms everywhere and Goal 10 – Reduced inequality.

SOLUTION PROJECT 5

Project description

Green Technology Policy, Climate Change Policy and The National Physical Plan as well as the 5 – year Malaysia Plan, community parks in the form of urban agriculture were introduced and extended to the community in Kuala Lumpur. LAZ1 KL plays a role as a facilitator and liaison between the local community with government as well as private agencies in developing community gardens in various areas in Kuala Lumpur.

This project has few objectives which are the first one is on circular economy aspect. This project ensures the community to be involved with comprehensive recycling activities for ensure ancillary funds are obtained for the sustainability of the garden project.

Next, this project covers for food security aspect. This is to ensure the community follows the method of sustainable agriculture (Permaculture) to ensure proper gardening methods are practiced in line with the National Food Security Agenda.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG will create and enhance roles and social relationships and can help to increase side income for families in between communities through urban agricultural activity programs called ‘urban farming’.

The project is to benefit residents association, community under Department / Agency / NGO, Education (college/ university/ school), 20 male, 20 female and 10 youth.

The solution provider of this project is Badan Amal Dan Kebajikan PPR Seri Cempaka. The project duration is six months with an allocation of RM30,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project are Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being and Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth.
