SOLUTION PROJECT 1

Project description

Fishermen in Kampung Kuala, Papar can improve their economic status by participating in marketing courses related to adult fish marketing and breeds selling.

The solution project for the fisherman in Kg Kuala, Papar, Sabah aims to generate income, livelihood and developing human capital through adult fish marketing and breeds selling.

The challenge facing by the fishermen around Kg. Kuala during monsoon seasons is taught. By providing opportunity to enhance their economic sustainability could somehow relief them from their hardships. To face this challenge, a community siakap hatchery has been proposed with some activities including timescale development, action plan, how to run necessary equipment for small scale, and proper mapping.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG widens and diversifies opportunities to overcome the rising cost of living, leveraging the economic potential to provide an alternative sustainable income for the fishermen in the community.

The solution provider of this project is Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The project duration is four months with an allocation of RM70,000.00.

SOLUTION PROJECT 2

Project description

The solution project for the community in Kg Rampazan in Papar aims to improve livelihood and developing human capital through agriculture. This project provides agriculture workshop that consist of strategic blueprints for paddy infrastructure development at Kg Rampazan.

Blueprint development Kg Rampazan and surrounding by setting up dialogues with local agencies, Member of Parliament and farmer group, this will empower farmers in learning on how to deal with the agencies and help them to plan infrastructure requirements.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG will create opportunities to improve their productivity and livelihood for farmers. While for youths, the goal is to teach them about agricultural technical skills that is highly demanded to ensure sustainability for paddy planting in Papar.

The project is to benefit the youth, women, and farmers in community of Kg Rampazan. The solution provider of this project is Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The project duration is six (6) months from June to November with an allocation of RM30,000.00.

SOLUTION PROJECT 3

Project description

The ageing farming community in Papar requires an injection of new blood to ensure continuity of paddy planting in key areas in Sabah. The aim of this project is to youth from Papar and the surrounding area and to expose them to the use of machinery such as basic tractor operation; in order for Sabah to produce a semi-skilled workers in this area.

The solution project funded by the APPGM-SDG will train youth to be more skilled and competent in handling agricultural machinery and expose them to the potential of the paddy industry.

The project is to benefit 6 youths from Papar or surrounding. This project also aims to include women as participants in this project.

The content of the training will be revised based on the feedback of previous participants to ensure it suited the need of trainers and trainees. Classroom activity will be reduced in order for them to get more exposure to the technical aspect.

The solution provider of this project is Dr Wanda Kiyah (Papar Parliament P175). The project duration is three months with an allocation of RM25,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project is SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth.

SOLUTION PROJECT 4

Project description

Fishermen in Kg. Kuala, Papar Sabah are losing their livelihood due to decreasing numbers of fish and catchment areas that can be reached by their boats. This situation is especially true during monsoon seasons. For sustainability of the industry, youth have expressed interest in rearing fish in a hatchery.

In the first phase, 8 youth were trained in hatchery management and marketing. In this proposed project solution funded by APPGM, the senior youth will be empowered to assist in training another group of youth.

Activities include planning, work preparation for fries’ release, fries’ inspection, an advanced hatchery course and an awareness program for children in the community.

Fishermen will benefit from the production of siakap fish in the hatchery mainly in two ways; the marketing of adult fish and the selling of the fries. Furthermore, youth in Papar can get exposure and training in adult fish and fries marketing in order to promote productive aquaculture activities in the community.

The solution provider of this project is Persatuan Komuniti Kg Kuala Papar. The project duration is five months with an allocation of RM25,000.00.

The main SDGs impacted through this solution project is Goal 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. The next SDG is Goal 8 – Decent work.
